Hey guys! I figured that I would start off my new blog with a little description of my writing self. I am currently an unsolicited author, though I am hoping to change that fairly soon! I really enjoy writing fantasy fiction, though my passion stretches beyond just fairytale, medieval type stories. My dreams of being an author have been around since I was very young, making mini books that make absolutely no sense when I go back to look at them. I suppose my first official book was when I was roughly six or eight years old when I wrote about my adventures with the famous Peter Pan! Totally nonfiction... But anyway, as of right now, I have written about 4 books. But I am in the process of editing my first book and it is going quite nicely. It's called Heart of a Lion, and it is a medieval tale featuring adventure, knights, a terrifying villain, and archery! The two main characters, Sam and Will, are so much fun to work with and I can't wait to share them with you all shortly! I'll have to post the drawings of them sometime soon, or post a video or something. I'm sure you will all be hearing more about them soon throughout my postings... In fact, I'm definitely sure! Do you like fantasy? What do you most like to read? Thoughts on Peter Pan? Feel free to comment! Any questions you have, I will get back to you as soon as possible! Thanks for reading! Emory R. Frie

Emory! I didn't know you've already written 4 books!! That's insane. When I was younger it had been my dream to write a book, but I never got around to it. That's amazing dedication, and I can't wait to read your books. Who would you you get your inspiration from as an author. Is there a writer out there you really identify with?

Thanks, Asher! That really means a lot! I actually get my inspiration from so many different authors, I'll try to list at least a few. I love C. S. Lewis, especially in Narnia. Amy Carter is another, she wrote a spy/thief series, and I adore the way Cornelia Funke weaves her words! J. K. Rowling is amazing, and Colleen Houck is incredible. I'm not sure exactly who I identify with the most, though. I've tried different styles of writing to see which I like the best, for instance my first book is written a lot like one of Gale Carson Levine's books, while my most recent books are more like Ridley Pearson or Rick Riordan (more amazing authors). I'm not sure if this answers your questions, but I hope so!

Oh! And if you ever get around to writing your own stories, I'd love to read your work! I've found that writing any and all ideas helps with storytelling 1/8/2015 10:00:10 am
Hi, Emory! I followed this link from Pinterest. I thought I'd say high, especially when I saw that you are in the same boat I am: a few novels written, getting ready to publish... Very nice! I love Gale Carson Levine's books. Fantasy-fairytale is where I live, so I totally understand you there. What are you looking at as far as publishing? Are you thinking of getting an agent, self publishing...? Working on the publishing process myself, I thought I'd ask, get an idea for what people in a similar situation were doing.

Hi Zoë! I'm so glad you checked out my blog! I absolutely adore your story boards! For publishing, I'm not sure what route I'll be taking-- but if I can get professionally published, that would be incredible! As for agents, I'll probably hire one eventually when I can afford it. Right now, there's this lovely lady who's editing my novels, and she'll be starting her own publishing company soon. Either I'll publish that way, or through Amazon. I really like the way that Amazon publishes, printing a copy with each order, rather than ending up with a bunch of books in my closet I'll need to sell... But I'm excited about it! What publishing route are you thinking of doing?

Thanks! I would also love to be professionally published, but right now, it doesn't look like that's going to happen for this particular book. I've been looking into several DIY publishing websites and packages, including Amazon and Createspace. So far, I have no decisions. I have heard that some agents are commission-only, so you wouldn't have to pay them, they'd just get a certain percentage from your book sales... but I am not an expert at this yet. That's great that you have an editor. I am still working on forming such connections. Anyway, it's great to hear what someone else just starting out is looking at. I look forward to hear more about your progression toward publishing and your book as it comes out!
